Richard's Family
Richard Mackereth, aged 24, married Sarah Bateman, aged 25, on 7 October 1844 at St Stephen in
New Hutton, Westmorland. They had nine children:
New Hutton, Westmorland. They had nine children:
George Mackreth 1846-1847
Mary Mackereth 1848-1931 John Mackereth 1850-1874 Henry Mackereth 1852-1937 Sarah Mackereth 1854-1930 Richard Mackereth 1856-1861 William Mackereth 1858-1901 Elizabeth Mackereth 1860-1861 Richard Thomas Mackereth 1861-1936 |
Initially the family lived at the Bee Hive in Strickley.
George was born in 1846 but died at 15 weeks. See the report of the inquest, from the Kendal Mercury, of Jan 1847. Mary was also born in Westmorland, in 1848. At about this time the family moved to Waterside farm. Here all the remaining children were born. Unfortunately, both Richard and Elizabeth were to die, within 2 weeks of each other in 1861. The fate of John, born in 1850, is uncertain. He worked at Waterside at the time of the census in 1871 but there is no verifiable record after this. There is a record of John Mackereth, who died in the Lancaster area on 12 November 1874. Unfortunately, this is supported by an additional record which suggest that he entered Haydock Asylum as a private patient on 6 Nov. 1874 |
